Okay, I have to admit it. I'm a natural hoarder. My grandfather was a hoarder, my parents were hoarders-- I think it's just part a part of my upbringing and natural behavior. I'm not one of those extreme hoarders that you see on reality television with the house that looks like a garbage dump. My home just looks a bit cluttered. That being said, the concepts in this book by Beth Jones titled Simple: 30 Ways to Declutter Your Life makes perfect sense, but everything is way easier said than done. I understand perfectly where Jones is coming from and why we should keep things minimalist and simple, but at the same time, I feel there must be a balance.

Although I do like the thought of a decluttered lifestyle in which there is minimal items in my house, my inner being is quite sentimental. I develop attachments to things quite easily and I always like to keep something in case I will need it in the future. There have been many a time where I kept something only to find a use for it later on, so I wouldn't need to go out of my way to buy an item again. I have a lot of family memorabilia that are kept in cardboard boxes that I take out once in a while to reminisce. Most of the items I do keep are functional and perfectly useful, but at the same time, I understand there are a lot of items I could live and do without.

Pretty much all the advice in this book is common sense, knowledge I already know, but I do think it has given me a sort of boost or motivation to really start looking at my house and lifestyle in a slightly different way. Jones' advice is sound, but there is nothing particularly motivational or eye-opening. I've started to slowly and gradually donate and throw various items away in my house that I'm sure I don't or won't need. It's a start, I guess.

I haven't quite finished this book but have read enough to know how to tackle my sewing room/office which I find such a challenge to keep organized and tidy. Get rid of what you don't need, use, like or have space for. Label the places, drawers, containers that things are stored in. The one I still have to master is to put things away before leaving the room for the day. This book was like a good pep talk and helped get me started.
As a soon-to-be empty nester, this book was helpful to get me moving on decluttering decades of things accumulated in raising kids. What I loved about this book is that each page is filled with encouragement. So the tips I hadn't thought of were great, but the best part was the encouragement to DO the things I already know need to be done. Bravo!
It dove right into ways to declutter. Everything was put simply and honestly. Just do it! Keeping things "just in case" is destructive and dangerous. Instead of stressing out about things you intend to use someday, just let them go. These two sententences are my favorites - they totally hit a chord for me!!! Lots to take away from this one. I definitely recommend it.
This is a short book, but it delivers a lot of information in just a few pages. The author covers each room with some decluttering tips, then tackles the important step of staying organized. And she lists some further resources at the end. A quick and helpful read.
This short ebook was full of great tips to decluttering one’s home. I won’t lie, after reading this, I looked around my bedroom and at my closet and decided that it’s time I implement some of these tips to declutter and work on ideas for new furniture or other ways to better utilize this space and make it more relaxing and clutter-free. I definitely recommend this for anyone who’s looked around their home and been overwhelmed by the plethora of stuff they have laying around and shoved in every nook and cranny.
As a reviewer I have read ninety five percent of all decluttering books available here on . Some were completely useless, while others went in to serious detail of the psycological issues involved in hoarding, as well as treatments and underlying causes. If you can't find the burried couch this is not your book. If on the other hand you are seriously bummed out that you live in a mess, and that you are embarrassed to have guests over, this will help you. Plus it's an easy read at around a hundred pages.

I have violated the authors rule of having things other than books on a bookshelf. I probably should pare down that stuff. I had to laugh about the junk drawer and crock pot hints. Very true. Those bookshelves are calling me now.
Common sense ideas for decluttering your home- central premises, ditch the junk and free yourself.

The truth sets you free- and the fact is your junk is holding you back.

This book takes you back to the basics- you know this stuff- but knowing and doing are two entirely different things.

If your house is cluttered- you are stuck in the 'only knowing' stage. This book has the potential to give you the kick in the pants you need.

At the end of the book, the author has added links to many different blogs that discuss in length decluttering- that in itself is worth the read.

Although the book is stupid simple- it could be the motivation that can get you to tackle your clutter and free yourself from your stuff.

And that, that's what's important.

Writing style direct and to the point- mostly. Some areas have more personal stories attached.

More blog style turned ebook then anything. Articles compiled into an easy to read, easy to understand format- ideal for the busy person in all of us.
