Librarians gone wild! It’s a typical state library association conference - presentations, networking, receptions, drinking, strangers appearing in Pete and Jamie’s room in the middle of the night… What’s atypical is murder. A lot of people hated library director Hugo Creighton, most of them librarians. Can Jamie help the police solve Creighton’s murder before the conference ends and the suspects go home?

The only reason this gets a 4 star rating is for the short story at the end of the book. The short story is not a mystery so if you aren't hooked into the Jamie/Pete relationship, skip right to book 10.

While attending a librarian conference, there's a murder, Pete volunteers the two of them to sit in on the interviews, ruining Jamie's surprise romantic plans. It gets worse - Jamie has to sit outside the room, on the floor, and pretend to be on his phone while listening into interview after interview of people who hardly know anything. Jamie's tedium becomes the reader's tedium.

The first 8 books in the series are better. I've started book 10 and it already has more interesting scenes and situations than this one. The author wrote it during NaNoWriMo and says the book wouldn't have been written without the nationwide novel writing month. The yearly event isn't useful if a great author like Meg Perry can finish a book like this.

There is minimal sexual content.

I love love love Jamie Brodie. This latest installment was perfect except it was too short! I cannot wait for the next one, have to know if Jamie & Pete can work through the remaining relationship issues. I was amused that the tables were turned on Jamie this time and that it was Pete who was invested in solving the mystery this time around.
Since I started this series I have loved all of them. Jamie is such a great guy and probably the most giving guy you'll meet. I am still on the fence with Pete but more because Jamie is just that great. I love the librarians, Jamie is challenged again in mystery but this time he just wants his time with Pete, not trying to solve mysteries. I can't wait to find out what happens next.
Another corpse shows up in Jamie's vicinity. This time he'd rather let someone else solve it because there is romance afoot with Pete. Romance troubles abound and a death knell for several couples is heard which includes Jamie's. That's my prediction even after reading the short story Hearts. Writing is superb and solving mystery more background filler with focus on our favorite characters Liz et al. However I'm ready to go back to the library. I'm over the road trips.
I am a fan of this series. Very well thought out stories, with a multiple story lines intertwined in the "mystery". My only complaint, is that Ms. Perry has overcompensated to not play to stereotype of her main characters, and has done just that by making them a "hetero-ized" stereotype.
Jamie and Pete head to a library association meeting and once again get involved with a homicide. This book was more about relationship issues than an actual mystery. Yes, there is a murder and they make some attempt to find the killer in between arguments(discussions) and introspection. While Jamie and Pete dithered, someone else stumbled over the crucial evidence that solved the crime and Boom! that pesky murder is over, let get back to us. Frankly, at this point, I'm not sure if I care whether they solve their problems.
This is the first book I've read in the series, so I don't know the back-story. As gay mysteries go, this is heavy on the the soap/relationship angle. The lead character is hoping for a weekend romance at conference with his boyfriend, but a murder interrupts things. Unfortunately, the murder puts him in a in a grumpy mood for most of the book. While this might work for long-term readers, for a newbie like me Jamie's foul mood was a real turn-off.

I stuck it out and finished the book (and may go back and start with book 1) but it was a tough read.
